On this website you will find information about family day care - a national accredited home based child care service. You can also find out how to become a family day care careprovider as well as the advantages of running a business from home. You will learn about the services and support The Careproviders of South Australia provides to its members including access COSA meeting agendas, minutes and newsletters from this site.

What is Family Day Care - South Australia

Family day care is a unique, home-based child care service which is operated by qualified, self employed, careproviders who work in partnership with the family day care scheme operator – the Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS).

Careproviders work with children aged from birth to 13 years of age and care for no more than four pre-school age children, with an additional three school age children at any one time. These numbers also include the careprovider’s own children.

Family day care offers flexible hours to suit both the families and careproviders and can accommodate for core hours – 8am-6pm, shift working parents, overnight care, weekend care, before and after school care, and school holidays, at an affordable cost.

Children attending a family day care service benefit from the care of one consistent careprovider with whom they are able to form a great, often long term, relationship. Careproviders are flexible and can adapt routines to suit the needs of the children in care.

Family day care has been operating in South Australia for over 30 years. There are over 850 individual careproviders caring for over 11,000 children all being supported by 12 schemes.

Family day care now has a national logo which enables this fantastic child care service to be easily recognised by families all across Australia. COSA has proudly adopted the national logo.

We encourage careproviders to collaborate with schemes for promotion, marketing and in the development of scheme policies.
