History
The Family Day Care Carers Association of NSW Inc was formed in 1987 as an association run by carers in New South Wales to resource and support fellow carers. The Association also aims to develop and foster carer perspectives within family day care at state and national levels. Our primary purpose is to support one another to ensure the best outcomes for the children in our care.
The Association’s constitutional objectives are to:
- Promote family day are as a quality childcare choice
- Inform and support carers in their endeavour to provide quality childcare
- Develop a network of communication between family day care carers in NSW
- Promote cooperation and communication between carers, staff of coordination units, operators and parents
- Liaise with government and non-government agencies
- Provide a forum for the views of carers

Structure
The Association does not have office space or paid employees. Its Executive Committee is voluntary and the work we do on behalf of carers in NSW is funded through membership fees and the sale of carer-specific resources.
There are 13 carers on the Executive Committee who fill the positions of President, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Publicity Officer and Conference Convenor/Fundraising Officer. There are also three city representatives, three country representatives and a representative from the Upper Northern region of NSW. Any carer holding full membership is eligible to stand for election to the Executive Committee.
This committee represents the views of member carers in NSW and meets every second month to discuss carer issues. Committee meetings are held in various locations across NSW and social functions and general meetings are also organised from time to time. The Association holds an Annual General Meeting – usually in August each year – to elect the Executive Committee for the following twelve months. The AGM always coincides with an exciting annual conference with is a weekend of training, networking and fun for carer members.
