The nomination process

The Constitution (which is taken from the Model Rules set out by the Office of Fair Trading under the Associations Incorporation Act, 1984) states:

Nominations

Nominations for positions on the Executive will be in writing, signed by two financial members, and accompanied by the written consent of the nominee.

Nominations shall be received by the Secretary not less than fourteen (14) days prior to the Annual General Meeting at which the election is to take place.

If insufficient nominations are received to fill vacancies on the committee, the candidates nominated are taken to be elected and further nominations are to be received at the Annual General Meeting.

If insufficient nominations are received, any vacant positions remaining on the committee are taken to be casual vacancies.

If the number of nominations received is equal to the number of vacanies to be filled, the persons nominated are taken to be elected.

A ballot will be held where nominations exceed the number of vacancies to be filled, and each nominee will be asked to present a personal profile.

What does this mean?

To be nominated for a position on the Executive Committee you must complete the Nomination Form and forward it to the Secretary by the due date. Should no other written nominations be received for the position that you have nominated for you will be automatically elected at the AGM. However if more than one written nomination is received, all nominees will be asked to present a brief personal profile at the AGM and a vote will take place.

Should no written nominations be received by the due date, nominations will be called from the floor during the AGM and again if only one nomination is received that person will be elected and if more than one nomination is received, nominees will be asked to present a brief personal profile and a vote will take place.

Position descriptions for the Executive Committee have been developed to assist members when considering nominating for a position on the Executive Committee. Office Bearer positions do require specific skills whilst City/Country Committee positions just require your time and commitment to assist with the running of your Association. Please consider giving your time and expertise; you will learn all about family day care as well as broadening your knowledge base and making new friends!
