How you can make a difference
As an individual carer in NSW you can make a difference by supporting your Association and giving carers a voice:
- Become a member and enjoy the benefits of membership
- Tell other carers about the Association and direct them to this website
- Consider joining the Executive Committee – we are always looking for passionate people who are keen to help others
- Invite Association representatives to come and speak with carers in your scheme or region
- Attend our AGM and annual conference
- Contribute to the newsletter
- Phone an Executive Committee member to let them know about issues in your particular area that they could represent at the state or national level
Member Benefits
There are many benefits attached to membership.
- Members are informed of current family day care issues through the quarterly newsletter, at meetings, conferences and when meeting with carers at scheme regional meetings and conferences

- The quarterly newsletter also publishes interesting articles such as craft and carer contributions and provides access to carer resources and family day care merchandise
|
- Members are represented when meeting with government departments at the State level and with State family day care associations and the national association Family Day Care Australia
|
- Executive Committee members are available either by phone or in person to help carers understand scheme policies, state regulations and national guidelines, and to support carers in difficult situations by offering options for dispute resolution. Carers’ interests are protected wherever possible

- The Association actively promotes family day care as a quality childcare option to further reinforce the family day care brand and its standing in the NSW community
|
- Carer specific training is offered upon invitation at scheme or regional level; topics include:
|
- Carer Support Groups – how to set up a successful carer support group in your area
|
- Family Day Care – Ready, Willing and Able – practical ideas and suggestions for carers to make their service more efficient and effective; includes preparing your home, your family and yourself for family day care, and activities, toys, equipment, paperwork and interviews
|
- Minding and Marketing Your (Family Day Care) Business – a practical workshop that offers suggestions to help carers work and promote their family day care business both at home and in the community.

- Promoting and Running a Successful Family Day Care Business – combines elements of the workshops two and three to highlight the importance of presentation and conduct
|
- The Role, Structure and Function of The Family Day Care Carers Association of NSW Inc – where it fits in the national family day care picture and how it links into the national association, Family Day Care Australia.

Membership Classes
The Family Day Care Carers’ Association of NSW offers three levels of membership as follows:
1. Full Membership $33 per year
Full membership is only available to carers currently registered with a family day care scheme in NSW. Full membership offers:
- Eligibility for election to the Executive Committee
- Voting rights on all Association issues
- Access to telephone support on carer issues
- Quarterly newsletter
- An opportunity to become involved in State and national committees and forums etc
- Access to conferences and training forums
- All of the benefits flowing on from the Association’s activities
2. Affiliate Membership $33 per year
Affiliate membership is available to in-home care carers who are currently registered with a family day care scheme in NSW; and to family day care carers currently registered in family day care schemes in other Australian States and Territories. Affiliate membership offers:
- Access to telephone support on carer issues
- Quarterly newsletter
- Access to conferences and training forums
- All of the benefits flowing on from the Association’s activities
3. Associate Membership $44 per year
Associate membership is available to all individuals (other than carers) and groups (such as family day care schemes) who are interested in the objectives of the Association. Associate members receive a copy of the newsletter and are entitled to attend the Annual State Conference. NB Associate membership does not carry voting rights.
Membership fees for carers are tax deductible as a legitimate business expense. All membership fees are quoted inclusive of GST.
