Home and Contents – Carers

Although many Home and Contents insurance policies include public liability insurance, they usually do not cover any claims arising out of a business.

As family day care is a home-based business, new carers should notify their current insurance company that they are now operating a business from their home. To be certain that their current policy will continue to cover their home and contents carers should request and receive a written endorsement from their insurer. This endorsement should state that the insurer recognises that a family day care business is being conducted from the insured premises and that cover is not compromised as a result.

FDCA has negotiated a specific endorsement which covers the operation of a family day care service from the home – irrespective of whether the home is owned or rented. This written endorsement, coupled with competitive rates, flexible payment options and a choice of policies, makes this insurance a must for family day care carers*.

A family day care endorsed Home and Contents policy makes good business sense*. What’s more, there is a choice of policies:

Extra Care – standard policy
Elite – includes Accidental Damage (new for old) replacement cover

Both policies are discounted by at least 10% through FDCA.

Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) arranges this insurance as a corporate authorised representative of Perryman O'Grady Philpott Pty. Limited (AFSL 24 05 25).

Home and Contents – Landlords

Landlords of Tenant Carers
When you operate a family day care service from a rented property, the property becomes a place of business and the landlord then has potential liabilities that may arise out of either personal or business activities. While these potential liabilities are covered under your business public liability insurance, landlords may have difficulty insuring the building as insurers are often unwilling to cover the building while a business operates from the premises.

FDCA has negotiated a specific endorsement which covers the operation of a family day care service from the home. This written endorsement, coupled with competitive rates, flexible payment options and a choice of policies that can include cover for loss of rent and rent default, makes this insurance a must for landlords of family day care carers*.

Insurance for Investment Properties
Carers with investment properties are also able to access Landlords building and contents policies.

Tenants That Care Information
The ‘Tenants That Care’ information kit has been produced to provide real estate agents and potential landlords with information on family day care and why carers make great tenants. Please feel free to make copies and distribute as required.
